the rider

nick!

Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Nick, and at the time of writing (Feb 2008), I’m 28.

When I started planning this trip back in August 2007, I couldn’t quite decide why I wanted to ride round the world… I suppose I still can’t… however, I’m nudging 30…. unmarried…. no mortgage….  no kids…. Do I need more reason….?

Having a father who was a BA captian meant my family would often travel to far flung places, although seeing them from the balcony of a 5* hotel is a different experience to the one I’m looking for now. Now the aim is to combine 2 of my biggest passions, travel and motorcycles, and go find out what the world is all about!

My desire to discover the world has meant my mid-twenties has been a rich tapestry of experiences. It started with my working for 3 years in India as a motorcycle designer/clay modeller. This was followed by a move to Thailand, then onto San Francisco, and most recently Munich. Each place has had it’s attractions, but I’ve not yet found the place I could settle down…. Maybe that’s a viable quest for my journey!

In terms of motorcycle riding experience, I’ve been riding for 7 years under all sorts of circumstances. Road racing circuits, motocross, trials riding, and of course lots of road riding. I suppose riding (and surviving!) on my Enfield Bullet 350 the 70kms round trip to work in India every day provided the most appropriate experience for this trip. (Both for me and my guardian angel.)
